Interactive Units: Content Description

History Solutions is a set of student-centered simulations and lessons in United States History that are aligned with national and state standards . Currently, there are 16 separate "Units" available to registered members, and more will be added regularly. Each Unit contains six types of lessons (see below).

Each "Unit" starts with a simulation that puts students into the exact situations that our great historical figures faced. Students cannot advance to the next question in the simulation until they have selected the "historically accurate answer." This is a powerful learning tool! The Historical Simulation sets the theme for each lesson, and explorations of that theme are carried further in the Cognitive Organizer, Writing Workshop, Primary Source Analysis, and Prediction Center, culminating in the Quiz.

Students must consider legal, moral, economic, and political factors relative to the time period of the simulation. It is import to convey this message to the students, as it is the natural tendency to impose present day values on historical events and decisions. In these simulations, students will be awarded points by making the historically accurate decisions. Therefore, students should read the background "SITUATION" information carefully as there will be clues to help the students choose the historically accurate decision. A summary of the student's decisions can be printed out or directly emailed to a supervising parent or guardian. Click on the links below to see Unit Descriptions and lesson methodology.
